Indoor Bowlers Aim for the PBA

Next weekend, a group of 8 Guernsey indoor bowlers will be travelling to the UK to compete in the Professional Bowls Association (PBA) qualifiers.

The PBA qualifiers see bowlers from all over the UK, or further afield, competing for places in the World Bowls Tour Indoor Bowls Championships, held at Potters Resort Hopton-On-Sea in January.

Alison Merrien MBE and Ian Merrien have already started their campaign at Desborough Indoor Bowls Club on Saturday (7th October) in the Scottish International Open qualifiers, and Ali continued into Sunday (8th October) in the Ladies World Matchplay qualifier where she made the semi-final. Ali and Ian have never played at this venue before, so were looking forward to the weekend of competition.

On Saturday 14th October, Ali and Ian will be joined by Dave King, Kris Lowe, Nicole Le Noury, Bradley Le Noury, Steve Le Noury and Mike Le Noury, at Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club in Poole. They will be competing in the World Indoor Singles and World Indoor Pairs qualifiers.

The competitions are knock-out style, which means each single or pair will need to win their game to advance to the next round to be in with a chance of qualifying. The first game of Singles on Saturday 14th October at 8:30am sees four of the eight competing in the Singles, while at 10am, Dave King and Ian Merrien face each other in their first game.  Some games over the weekend will be live streamed on YouTube under “Wrong Bias Podcast Live”, and the Guernsey Indoor Bowling Association Facebook page will be kept up to date with the latest results.
